High Prairie Life is about my life on the high prairie in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Each season brings something different: cooking seasonally, organic gardening, hunting, blizzards, family, friends and so much more! Share with me as I live my life one season at a time.
I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I operate a bed & breakfast/hunting lodge in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. Harvesting my food from my organic vegetable and herb garden, orchards, vineyards, and harvesting game off our land gives me the opportunity to share the bounty with my family, friends and guests. I harvest, preserve and prepare my food one season at a time and I am excited to share this with you!
My passion for cooking evolved through the years helping my mom cook in the kitchen. She is a great cook, but hates to bake. I met my future husband at 14 years of age and his little Italian mother was a great baker and took the time to teach me her tricks. If I have learned anything about cooking it is that there is always a trick to make it better! Over the years this knowledge and experience has been woven into my passion for food and the recipes that link us to our heritage, wherever we may have come from. Whenever possible, my favorite way to cook is fresh, seasonal, local and organic.
Last but not least, I am FINALLY publishing my cookbooks! There are 4 books, one focused on each season, with wonderful recipes and tips specific to that time of year. Keep an eye out for the announcement of when they will be available for purchase!
